Developing Big Calf Muscle-The Simple Way

If you are any kind of serious bodybuilder or athlete you simply can’t ignore training your calf muscle. When it comes to developing big calf muscle you need to keep in mind one or two things.
First not everyone has the natural musculature to develop big calf muscle as seen in many athletes or bodybuilders. These are normally genetic traits.
It’s important to distinguish between having small calf muscles and high calf muscles. Here is the difference -The longer the length of a calf muscle, the potentially larger its volume and size. So a bodybuilder with a very long calf muscle, one that extends right down to the ankle, has much more potential for being developed into big calf muscles than somebody with a shorter calf muscle,- the latter will have a much longer tendon attachment and so will have less potential for developing large calf muscle mass.
But it is my opinion that with the right training anyone with any type of calf muscle can develop (even if you have small and high calves), you can bigger calf muscles.
The problem is that most big calf muscle routines just don’t work for the average person because they don’t allow adequate intensity levels and enough recovery time.
There have been a lot of champion bodybuilders in the sport with naturally high calves. And yet they achieved success by working hard with the right training and rest periods you will develop big calf muscle size
When it comes to developing big calf muscles you have to remember that to work on gaining big calf muscle, the training intensity required for training calves, is different from the intensity required for the other major muscle groups in that the intensity has to be high but the level of rest between sets has to be low! Just training your calf muscles with just heavy weights and or performing more sets or cutting down on the rest between sets just wont cut it.

For instance, Donkey calf raises are widely recommended by most as being effective for big calf muscle mass gains and many experts also recommend doing the donkey calf raise with bare feet. But a quick tip is and the proper way to perform donkey calf raises is to do them with knees locked and your hamstring totally stretched out at the bottom. You should not bend your knees. Keeping the knees locked works and is effective because the main calf muscle, the Gastrocnemius, attaches above rather than below the knee, and when the hamstring is stretched the Gastrocnemius also stretches to its full length, making the calf raise movement even that more intense and productive .
To get big calf muscle mass be sure to keep your hamstrings stretched as much as possible throughout the movement in order to keep as much tension as possible on the Gastrocnemius.
